the study of waves and their purpose.

TermDefinition
Waves A wave is a disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another without transferring matter.
Mechanical Waves A Mechanical Wave is a wave that travels only though matter.
Medium A material in which a wave travels is called a medium.
Traverse wave A transverse wave is a wave which the disturbance perpendicular to the direction the waves travel.5
Longitudial Wave A longitudial wave causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction that the waves travel.
Sound Wave A sound Wave is a longitudial wave that can travel only through matter.
