KITE Vocab

TermDefinition
third person limited narrator, focuses on one character's perspective
third person omniscient objective, focuses on multiple characters' perspectives
phrase A cluster of words that has meaning.
transition/transitional phrase A word or group of words that bridge ideas in writing.
central idea the main idea
central theme a lesson or over-arching idea
revision/revised re-examining or altering something
formal vs. informal tone informal tends to have colloquialisms, formal uses sophisticated language.
objective summary A concise version of the tet that has no opinion.
concise/precise Precise is as close to the correct or perfect answer as possible. Concise is straightforward and to the point.
conclusion end or inference
claim vs. counterclaim the claim is what the author believes, the counterclaim is the opposite stance.
perspective your opinion or interpretation
point of view who is telling the story
primary purpose the main reason something was written
relevant vs. irrelevant if something is relevant, it's applicable to your topic or argument. if something is irrelevant, it's random- something that cannot be applied to your topic or arguement.
primary/primarily The main reason.
connotation The emotion or idea that goes with the meaning of the word.
analogy an extended metaphor
allusion a reference to something
maintain focus To keep one's attention.
acknowledge an opposing viewpoint neutrally identifying a counter-argument and demonstrating an understanding of different perspectives.
convey meeting to communicate in a way that helps you understand what something means.
active voice when a voice is active, you are doing something to the subject.
passive voice. when a voice is passive, the subject is doing something to you.
