| Formal vs informal tone | Formal is very complex and well written- and informal is very casual and conversational |
| Objective summary | Concise version of text without bias or opinion |
| Concise/precise | Succinct/exact |
| Conclusion | A final part that wraps the text up |
| Claim or Counterclaim | Claim is the main argument, opinion, or point and counterclaim is the opposite or opposing side |
| Perspective | How you see or understand something (opinion) |
| Point of view | Who is telling the story |
| Primary purpose | The main reason it was written |
| Relevant vs. irrelevant | Relevant is applicable and irrelevant is not applicable |
| Primary or primarily | The main important reason |
| Connotation | The emotion or idea that comes to mind with a word |
| Emphasis | Special importance, value, or prominence given to something |
| Contribute | To help to cause or bring about |
| Inference/infer/inferred | A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning |
| Analogy | A comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification |
| Allusion | An expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference |
