mechanical wave a wave that travels only though matter.
medium a material in which a wave travels is called a medium.
transverse wave ] a wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels.
longitudinal wave causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction the the wave travels.
sound wave a longitudinal wave that can travel only through matter.
sound wave models a colied spring toy shows the properties of a longitudinal wave.
