Waves

The study of waves and their properties.

TermDefinition
Waves A disturbance that transfers energy from one place to another without transferring matter.
Mechanical Waves A wave that travels only through matter.
Medium A materiel in which a wave travels.
Transverse Wave. A wave in which the disturbance is perpendicular to the direction the wave travels.
Longitudinal Wave Causes the particles in a medium to move parallel to the direction that the wave travels.
Sound Wave. A longitudinal wave that can only travel through matter.
