Chem #10

QuestionAnswer
What are the requirements for a chemical reaction? Particles must collide, they must collide with enough energy, and they must collide with proper orientation.
What are the factors of a chemical reaction? Activation energy, temperature, particle size, surface area, and particle contact (stirring).
What is a catalyst? This is a substance that speeds up the reaction but is not consumed in the reaction.
What is an endothermic reaction? Requires energy to be put into the system.
What is an exothermic reaction? Releases energy as a product.
What is a reactant? The starting substance in a reaction.
What is a chemical reaction? A process by which one or more substances are changed into one or more different substances.
What is a product? The end result of a reaction.
What is the law of conservation of mass? Mass is neither created or destroyed in chemical reactions.
What are the 5 types of chemical reactions? Synthesis, decomposition, single displacement, double replacement, combustion.
What is a synthesis reaction? When two or more simple compounds join to form a more complicated one.
What is a double replacement? Cations of two ionic compounds switch places.
What is single replacement? When one element trades places with an element in an ionic compound.
What is decomposition? When a complex molecule breaks apart to form two or more less complicated molecules.
What is combustion? Oxygen reacts with another compound to form carbon dioxide, water, and heat.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
