| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Perpendicular bisector | A segment, ray, or line that intersects a side of the triangle at the MIDPOINT and is PERPENDICULAR to that same side |
| Angle bisector | A segment, ray, or line that intersects each angle of the triangle at a VERTEX such that CONGRUENT ANGLES are formed |
| Midsegment | A segment that connects TWO MIDPOINTS of two side sides of a triangle |
| Altitude | A segment, ray, or line that goes through a VERTEX of a triangle and is PERPENDICULAR to the opposite side (or a line that contains the opposite side) - also known as the HEIGHT of a triangle |
| Median | A segment, ray, or line that goes through a VERTEX and the MIDPOINT of the opposite side |
| Median steps | - find the midpoint of the opposite side - find the slope using the midpoint and the vertex - substitute (vertex) |
| Altitude steps | - find slope of the opposite side - make the slope opposite (sign too) - substitute (vertex) |
| Perpendicular bisector steps | - find the midpoint of the given segment - find slope with the segment points - make the slope opposite (sign too) - substitute (midpoint) |
| Midsegment steps | - find the midpoint of the 1st side - find the midpoint of the 2nd side - find slope using the midpoints - substitute (midpoint) |
| Midpoint formula | (x1 + x2/2 , y1 + y2/2) |
| Distance formula | *square root* (x1 - x2)^2 + (y1 - y2)^2 |
