Tech of Res - Unit 1

TermDefinition
source a document or artifact that is print or digital used to provide evidence in research.
Primary Source A first-hand, original account, record, or evidence about a person, place, object, or an event.
Examples of Primary Sources Objects, oral history, photographs, documents.
Secondary Source Someone's interpretation of a primary source or sources.
Examples of Secondary Sources Scholarly journals, magazines, reports, encyclopedias, handbooks, dictionaries, documentaries, newspapers.
MLA Modern Language Association - provides guidelines for formatting documents and citing research in writing
APA American Psychological Association - style used to cite sources within the sciences.
Works Cited list of sources that directly corresponds with information parenthetically cited in the text.
Works Consulted list of all sources used to prepare a document.

CRAAP Currency - Relevance - Authority - Accuracy - Purpose
Currency determining when a source was published
Relevance determining intention and the audience of the website
Authority determining the credentials of the creator of the website
Accuracy determining if the website contains errors
Purpose determining if the purpose of the website is to entertain, sell you something, or provide information
Lateral reading opening up other tabs in your browser to learn more about a source.
