Part 2

QuestionAnswer
Body planes are? Imaginary planes that slice through the body in reference to anatomic position
______are used in radiographic positioning to center a body part to the IR or CR body planes
4 Fundamental planes Sagittal
4 Fundamental planes Coronal
4 Fundamental planes Horizontal/Transverse
4 Fundamental planes Oblique
Sagittal planes Cut vertically from anterior to posterior, dividing the body into right and left portions, but not necessarily in equal parts
The Midsagittal plane A specific sagittal plane that passes through midline and divides the body into equal right and left halves
Coronal planes Cut vertically from side to side (right to left), dividing the body into anterior and posterior portions, but not necessarily in equal parts
The Midcoronal plane A specific coronal plane that passes through midline and divides the body into equal anterior and posterior halves
Horizontal or Transverse planes pass crosswise through the body at right angles to the longitudinal axis, diving the body into superior and inferior potions
_____________ planes are perpendicular to sagittal and coronal planes transverse
Oblique planes pass through a body part at any angle that is NOT perpendicular or parallel to any of the previous three planes
Special planes are localized to specific parts or areas of the body
The Interiliac plane cuts through the body connecting both top parts of the pelvis
___________ is not always perpendicular to the table and very important for positioning! The Interiliac plane
The Occlusal plane is formed by the biting surfaces of the upper and lower teeth with jaws closed
The two Great Body Cavities Thoracic Cavity
The two Great Body Cavities Abdominal (Abdominopelvic) Cavity
The two great cavities are divided by the diaphragm
Thoracic cavity contains Trachea
Thoracic cavity contains Esophagus
Thoracic cavity contains Lungs
Thoracic cavity contains Pleural membranes
