Set 8- Assessments

TermDefinition
Norm referenced tests compare a student’s performance to a large group of same-age or same-grade peers. Scores show how a student ranks compared to others, not just what they know or can do. Used for educational placement.
Screening tests are quick checks used to identify students who may need extra support. They don’t give a diagnosis but signal who might need further evaluation or intervention.
Individual Intelligence Tests measure capacity for abstract thinking, mental reasoning, judgement and decision-making.
Individual Academic Achievement Tests measures strengths and weaknesses in individual skills.
Adaptive Behavior Scale Assessments Useful in diagnosing a student with an intellectual disability that affects development or progression of adaptive behavior, Measures independence and skill abilities.
Curriculum Based Measurements (CBM) criterion based assessment used to track progress monitoring
Woodcock Johnson Acheivement Test norm referenced diagnostic tool for identifying students with high incidence disabilities. Made up of 2 parts- achievement and cognitive abilities. Identifies deficits in math and reading.
Weschler Intelligence Scale (intelligence quotient test) Measures cognitive abilities of children (WISC) and adults. Measures verbal and performance intelligence.

Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (K-ABC) standardized test that is used to evaluate preschoolers, minority groups, and children with learning disabilities. (ages 2-18) non-verbal, bilingual
Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale (VABS) assess personal and social skills of children and adults.
Adaptive Behavior Skills needed for everyday life and independent living
Cognitive Assessments used for identifying disabilities- verbal reasoing, numerical reasoning, abstract reasoning, spatial ability, verbal ability.
Curriculum Based Assessments assessments used to see if a student is making adequate process through the curriculum.
Criterion Based Assessments measures student mastery of a specific skill or content
Authentic Assessments evaluates a student's ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world context.
Observational Assessments Observing and recording student behavior in different settings.
