TermDefinition
Nutrition The processes involved in taking in nutrients and assimilating and utilizing them.
Carbohydrates Needed for energy to run every function within the body.
Vitamins Required for many body functions to occur including normal metabolism.
Minerals Used by cells to produce important biochemicals that have many bodily functions.
Proteins Important for building Muscle and blood tissues, and for cell repair and replacement.
Water Necessary for virtually every function of the cells and body; makes up 50 -70 percent of the body's weight.
Vitamin A Supports the overall Health of the skin and aids in the health, function, and repair of the skin cells. It has also been show to improve the skins elasticity and thickness.
Vitamin C An important substance needed for the repair of the skin and tissues. This vitamins aids in and accelerates the skins healing process, as well as boosting the immune system. Fights the aging process as well as promotes the production of collagen.
Vitamin D Enables the body to properly absorb and use calcium. also promotes rapid skin healing.
Vitamin E Helps protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays.
Immunity Refers to the ability of the body to resist and destroy pathogens and respond to infection.
Natural Immunity This is partly inherited and partly developed through healthy living.
Acquired Immunity This is developed after overcoming a disease, through inoculation, or through exposure to natural allergens.
Antibiotics Substances that kill or slow the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms.
Patch test Also known as a predisposition test, a test for identifying a possible allergy in a client.
Allergies A hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system.
Ergonomics The science of designing the workplace as well as its equipment and tools to make specific body movements more comfortable.
