Waves
| Term | Definition |

| Wave | a regular pattern of motion that transfers energy from place to place |
| Wavelength | The distance between two crests (how long the wave is) |
| Amplitude | The height of the wave. Measured from the line to the crest or to the trough. |
| Crest | The highest point of a wave (the top) |
| Trough | The lowest point of a wave (the bottom) |
| Frequency | The number of waves in a given amount of time |
| Medium | A solid, liquid or gas that mechanical waves travel through |
| Longitudinal Wave | Waves that vibrate in the same direction that they travel (like sound) |
| Transverse Wave | Waves that move up and down |
| Mechanical Wave | Waves that do not need a medium to travel and can travel through empty space |
| Electromagnetic Wave | Waves that do not need a medium to travel and can travel through empty space |
| Sound | A type of mechanical wave that is caused by vibrations |
| Pitch | How high or low a sound is |
| Volume | How loud or quiet a sound is |
| Binary Code | Any code that uses two or more symbols to communicate |
| Examples of Electromagnetic Waves | Light Waves, Microwaves, X-Rays |
| Examples of Mechanical Waves | Sound Waves, Seismic Waves, Ocean Waves |
