7 Principles of Cons

QuestionAnswer
Popular Sovereignty People can run for office, help someone who is running, or protest decisions they don’t agree with. Leaders are not chosen by family or taken by the military.
Republicanism People choose representatives to vote on laws and issues. Each state elects its own Senators and Representatives.
Limited Government If a representative commits a crime, they would go to trial just like anyone else.
Federalism The federal government is in charge overall, but states still have a lot of power too. Some powers belong only to the federal government, some only to the states, and some are shared by both.
Separation of Powers This system stops one branch from getting too much power and taking over the country.
Checks and Balances Federal judges are chosen by the President but must be approved by Congress. Laws have to be passed by both parts of Congress, signed by the President, and can be reviewed by the courts.
Individual Rights The Bill of Rights, which is the first ten amendments, was made to protect the rights of the people.
