| Bi-directional | picks up sound equally from the front and back while rejecting audio from the sides; ideal for interviews, podcasts, duet recordings |
| Cardioid | shaped like a heart; sensitive to sounds coming from the front and reduces pickup from the sides and rear, making it ideal for isolating vocals, instruments, and reducing background noise in live and studio settings |
| Super-Cardioid | superior side rejection of noise as compared to standard cardioid mics, making it ideal for isolating sound sources in noisy environments |
| Hyper-Cardioid | superior side rejection of noise as compared to standard cardioid mics and picks up some from directly behind the mic |
| Shotgun | designed to isolate audio sources by focusing on sounds directly in front of it while rejecting side noise |

| Telephoto Lens | long-focus camera lens that magnifies distant subjects, making them appear closer and larger, ideal for wildlife sports, and portraits by compressing perspective |
| Zoom Lens | allows you to adjust focal length without changing lenses |
| Higher f-stop number | a smaller opening in the aperture (less light, more in focus) |
| Lower f-stop number | a larger opening in the aperture (more light, blurry background) |
| GAIN | amplifies the signal from the image sensor to brighten an image (ISO); more gain = more grain in the image |
| Shutter Speed | 1/48; The duration a camera’s shutter remains open to expose the sensor to light, measured in seconds or fractions of a second |
