Unit 4 vocab pov, definition, and sentence

Vocabulary wordPOS, definition, and sentence
precise (adj) - Exact and detailed The director was precise with his camera positions.
credibility n) - The quality of being trustworthy The party has lost credibility with electors.
relevant (adj) - Pertaining to or applicable to a topic; germane Please ensure all relevant documents are signed.
bias (n) - general tendency or leaning in one direction; partial toward one view over another A judge should be totally free from bias.
counterclaim (n) - an opposing claim that disagrees with the thesis The argument had an strong counterclaim.
rebuttal (n) - Response to the counterclaim. Rebuttals support the claim in an argument/ debate. A 10-minute rebuttal was given by each speaker.
purpose (n) - The intent or aim (author’s purpose is his/her reason or objective in writing a text) The author's purpose is to persuade readers that dogs are better that cats.
audience (n) - The person/people for whom a text is written. The essay was written for an audience of middle schoolers.
expository techniques (n) - the elements an author uses that focus on central idea, provide evidence and examples, and present logical conclusions (ex.: facts, statistics, text, data, main ideas, etc.) The author used expository techniques to support her main idea.
narrative techniques (n)-Elements an author uses to tell a story (fiction or nonfiction) including description (including sensory details), dialogue, pacing (using suspense to build tension), and reflection. The author used narrative techniques to enhance her story.
citation (n) - brief reference within the text that provides readers with the source of the information. You can take ideas from other sources as long as you use proper citation.
Latin prefix in- Inconsiderate: Not thoughtful of others. Her inconsiderate remarks hurt her parents deeply.
Latin root -credere- Incredible: Hard to believe; extraordinary. The team put an incredible amount of work into the project to ensure its success.
decipher (v)-succeed in interpreting or understanding something The coded message is impossible to decipher.
invincible (adj)- impossible to defeat The Titans have looked invincible in the last two games against their opponents.
contraption (n)- machine that seem strange or unnecessarily complicated This is a strange contraption designed to open boxes.
newfangled (adj)- invented only recently and, therefore, strange seeming The elderly man struggled with the newfangled smartphone.
ingenuity (n)- quality of being original and clever He showed his ingenuity in repairing the toaster.
improvisations (n)-things that are created without any preparation She specializes in improvisation on the piano.
engineer (n)- person with scientific training who designs and builds machines, products, or systems The engineer worked extremely hard to build the super computer.
generators (n)- machines that produce electricity We're using generators to power our equipment.
current (n)- flow of electricity The current from the wire caused sparks to fly.
cunning (adj)- skillful;clever The fox is known for its cunning ability to avoid traps.
veered (v)- changed directions The car veered off the road.
