TermDefinition
Precise (adj.) Exact and detailed. Ex. sentence- The strokes in the painting were very precise.
Credibility (n.) The quality of being trustworthy. Ex. sentence- After proving AI wrong, he began to doubt its credibility.
Relevant (adj.) Pertaining to or applicable to a topic, germane. Ex. sentence- He refuted the attorney, saying that the claim was not relevant to the case.
Bias (n.) General tendency or leaning in one direction; partial toward one view over another. Ex. sentence- Mr. Wayne's bias was evident during the conversation.
Counterclaim (n.) An opposing claim that disagrees with the thesis. Ex. sentence- The counterclaim was extremely convincing.
Rebuttal (n.) Response to the counterclaim. Rebuttals support the claim in an argument/debate. Ex. sentence- The rebuttal left the judges astonished.
Purpose (n.) The intent or aim. Ex. sentence- The purpose of the operation was unknown.
Audience (n.) The person/people for whom a text is written. Ex. sentence- The audience groaned at the character's actions.
Expository techniques (n.) The elements an author uses that focus on a central idea, provide evidence and examples, and present logical conclusions. Ex. sentence- The author includes an abundance of expository techniques in his novel.
Narrative techniques (n.) Elements an author uses to tell a story, including description, dialogue, pacing, and reflection. Ex. sentence- Narrative techniques were hidden throughout the essay.
Citation (n.) Brief reference within the text that provides the readers with the source of information. Ex. sentence- The kid used incorrect citations in his limerick.
Latin prefix in- Inside. Def- the inner side or surface of something. Sentence- I was inside the pool for what felt like a century.
Latin prefix credere Credentials. Def- Documents or traits that inspire belief in one's qualifications. Sentence- The officer asked for my credentials when I entered the airport.
Decipher (v.) Succeed in interpreting or understanding something. Ex. sentence- I was able to decipher the secret Russian code.
Invincible (ad.) Impossible to defeat. Ex. sentence- Achilles was thought to be invincible until he was shot in his ankle.
Contraption (n.) A machine that seems strange or unnecessarily complicated. Ex sentence- The contraption caused the engineer to wonder why it was built like that.
Newfangled (adj.) Invented only recently and therefore, strange-seeming. Ex. sentence- The newfangled invention caused many Americans to
Ingenuity (n.) Quality of being original and clever. Ex. sentence- The man showed ingenuity while making his labyrinth.
Improvisations (n.) Things that are created without any preparation. Ex. sentence- I had to make many improvisations while going through the labyrinth the engineer had made.
Engineer (n.) Person with scientific training who designs and builds machines, products, or systems. Ex. sentence- If the word never had a single engineer, human would become extinct.
Generators (n.) Machines that produce electricity. Ex. sentence- The machine exploded, causing a tear in time and space.
Current (n.) Flow of electricity. Ex. sentence- The current widened the tear in time and space, causing hundreds unknown species to descend upon the Earth.
Cunning (adj.) Skillful; clever. Ex. sentence- The young boy was indeed quite cunning, surpassing even adults with his skills.
Veered (v.) Changed directions. The man veered to the right, unaware of an interdimensional portal that was just ahead.
