| precise | (adj) exact and detailed (ex.) That shot was very precise. |
| credibility | (n) the quality of being trustworthy (ex.) The credibility of the source is questionable. |
| relevant | (adj) pertaining to a topic; germane (ex.) That evidence is not related to the source. |
| bias | ((n) general tendency or leaning in one direction; partial towards one view over another (ex.) Ethan had a bias that favored Pepsi over Coca-Cola. |
| counterclaim | (n) an opposing claim that disagrees with the thesis (ex.) Energy drinks might be bad for you, however, they can boost your energy. |
| rebuttal | (n) response to the counterclaim. Rebuttals support the claim in an argument/debate (ex.) This might be true, but energy drinks' long term health effects can have a bigger impact than that short energy boost. |
| purpose | (n) the intent or aim (author's purpose is his/her reason or objective in writing a text (ex.) You should stop drinking energy drinks because they can cause health problems, disturb sleep schedules, and cause caffeine overdose. |
| audience | (n) the person/people for whom a text is written. (ex) So football fans, stick around to find out the ending of this amazing game. |
| expository techniques | (n) the elements an author uses that focus on the central idea, provide evidence and examples, and provide logical conclusions (ex.) facts, statistics, data, main idea, etc. (ex) Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert sunlight into energy. |
| narrative techniques | (n) elements an author uses to tell a story (fiction or nonfiction) including description (including sensory details), dialogue ,and pacing (using suspense to build tension and reflection). (ex.) The air smelled of rain and hot asphalt. |

| decipher | (adj) succeed in interpreting or understanding something (ex.) I deciphered the code to the puzzle. |

| contraption | (n) machine that seems strange or unnecessarily complicated (ex.) That contraption seemed it was from another dimension. |
| newfangled | (adj) invented only recently and, therefore, strange-seeming (ex.) His grandfather refuses to use that newfangled smartphone, preferring his old flip phone |
| ingenuity | (n) quality of being original and clever (ex.) She showed amazing ingenuity in finding ways to cut costs. |
| improvistations | (n) things that are created without any preperations (ex.) He made last minute improvisations before the judges came. |
| generators | (n) machines that produce electricity (ex.) The generators kept the electricity running when the power went out. |
| current | (n) flow of electricity (ex.) The electrical currents is what keeps my house's power working. |
| cunning | (adj) having or showing skill in achieving ones's ends by deciet or evasion (ex.) The cunning people seemed to be up to something devious. |
