WordDefinition
Corroborate -(verb) To support an idea, statement, or POV with evidence -I was relieved when my sister corroborated why we were late for dinner
Prevailing -(adj.) The idea or feeling that is the strongest -My anger was prevailing when my sister popped my volleyball
Indicate -(verb) To pick or point out -the door being closed indicated my brother was in there
Tone -(noun) The way the authors expressed their personal opinion about themselves, the content, or audience -my mom uses a stern tone when shes frustrated
Mood -(noun) The emotions a reader feels when reading the exerpt -the book has a very sad mood in this chapter
Purpose -(noun) The reason the text exists -the purpose of these vocab terms is to help me learn
Perspective -(noun) A way of thinking about and understanding something -my perspective on the situation is that you did it by accident
Audience -(noun) Those who actively engage with the text/texts -the audience the author wanted for this bookwas 10-12 year olds
Expository Techniques -(noun) The elements an author uses that focus on a central idea -the author used expository techniques in this story
Stylistic -(adj.) Of or concerning style -the author used stylistic techniques in this text
Closure -(noun) a sense of resolution or conclusion -my family now has closure after loosing our pet.
Suspense -(noun) a feeling of anxious curiosity -there was a sense of suspense when the villan was chasing the hero
Adaptation -(noun) a story or work based on an older story -the percy jackson and the olympians show is an adaptation of the books
Parenthetical Citations -(noun) citations: breif refrences within texts parenthetical: within perentheses - the author used parenthetical citations in this part of the story
Works Cited -(noun) a list at the end of a paper or text that shows all the sources used to find the information -the works cited can be found at the bottom of the text
Latin Prefix uni- -word that uses uni: Unison -(uni-) on; single -(unison) simultanious preformance of action by utterance of speech
Latin root -mittere- -word that uses mittere: emit -(-mittere-) to send out; release -(emit) to produce and discharge something
Blight -(noun) something that spoils, prevents, or destroys -a strange blight crept over the area
Maladies -(noun) illness or desease -mysterious maladies struck the flocks of chickens
Puzzled -(adj.) confused and unable to understand something -the doctors became more and more puzzled about this spread of sickness
Stricken -(adj.) very badly affected by trouble or illness -children who would be stricken with the sickness while at play
Stillness -(adj.) absense of noise or motion - there was a strange stillness
Deserted -(adj,) abandoned; empty - it wad deserted by all living things
Emissions -(noun) the release of something into the air or enviornment -car emissions cause a lot of pollution
Emit -(verb) to produce and discharge of something -the room emitted a strange green light
Activist -(noun) a person who campaigns to bring about political or social change -there was a campaign led by a social activist at a Kroger today.
