| Andes Mountains | The longest continental mountain range, running along South America's western coast |
| Atacama Desert | The driest desert on Earth, located in northern Chile |
| Isthmus of Panama | The narrow strip of land connecting North and South America |
| Machu Picchu | Ancient Inca city high in the Andes Mountains of Peru |
| Pampas | Fertile grasslands of Argentina used for cattle ranching and farming |
| Panama Canal | A canal through Panama connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans |
| Sierra Madre | Mountain ranges in Mexico (Oriental-east, Occidental-west) |
| Calypso | A type of Caribbean music with African influences, originally from Trinidad |
| Gaucho | A South American cowboy, especially in Argentina |
| Itaipu Dam | One of the world's largest hydroelectric dams, on the Brazil-Paraguay border |
| Llanos | Grasslands in Venezuela and Colombia |
| Mestizo | A person of mixed European and Indigenous American ancestry |
| Mulatto | A person of mixed European and African ancestry |
| Reggae | A music genre that originated in Jamaica with African and Caribbean influences |
| Tierra Caliente | Hot land; the lowest and warmest elevation zone (sea level to 3,000 feet) |
| Tierra Fria | Cold land; the higher elevation zone (6,000-12,000 feet) |
| Tierra Templada | Temperate land; the middle elevation zone (3,000-6,000 feet) where most people live |
| Tikal | Ancient Maya city in Guatemala with massive pyramids |
| Vertical Zonation | Different climate zones at different elevations on a mountain (tierra caliente, templada, fria) |
