Bias (Definition) A tendency to favor one idea or group over another.
Correspondence Bias Judging personality based solely on actions, ignoring context.
Confirmation Bias Seeking information that supports existing beliefs.
Conflict of Interest Bias caused by personal involvement in an issue.
Cultural Bias Interpreting events based on one’s cultural standards.
Framing Bias Focusing on certain aspects while ignoring others.
Hindsight Bias Believing you “knew it all along” after an event occurs.
Why biases matter They distort judgment and decision-making.
Bias vs Fallacy Bias is a tendency; fallacy is an error in reasoning.
Example of Confirmation Bias Only reading news that supports your opinion.
Example of Cultural Bias Judging another culture using your own norms.
Example of Framing Seeing a problem differently depending on wording.
Example of Hindsight Bias Claiming you predicted an outcome after it happened.
How to reduce bias Use evidence, question assumptions, consider alternatives.
Role of biases in debate They influence arguments and interpretation of evidence.
