| Aspiration | When food or liquid enters the lungs instead of the stomach |
| Suppository | Solid medication inserted into the rectum |
| Enema | Liquid medication inserted into the rectum |
| Sim's position | Left side position used for rectal medication administration |
| Enteral Tube | Tube used to deliver food or medication to the GI Tract |
| NG tube | Nasogastric tube that goes from the nose to the stomach |
| PEG tube | feeding tube placed through the abdominal wall into the stomach |
| G- Tube | gastronomy tube inserted directly into the stomach |
| Tube patency | the tube is open and not blocked |
| Residual | Fluid remaining in the stomach before feeding |
| Flush | Water used to clear a feeding tube |
| Occlusion | a blockage in the feeding tube |
| NPO | nothing by mouth |
| Swallowing Reflex | the ability to swallow safely |
| Level of Consciousness (LOC) | A patients level of alertness and awareness |
| GI motility | Movement of the digestive system |
| MAR (medication administration record) | Chart where medication administration is documented |
| PRN | medication given as needed |
| Scheduled medication | Medication given at specific times |
