TermDefinition
Corroborate (v) - to support an idea, statement, or character's point of view by giving more evidence or proof. They could help corroborate his story.
Prevailing (adj.) - the idea or feeling that is the strongest. The alpha wolf felt prevailing.
Indicate (v) - to pick or point out. He had to indicate that he already won the connect four game.
Tone (n) - the way authors express their personal opinions about themselves, the content, subject, and/or the audience. The author had a mysterious tone.
Mood (n) - the emotions; a reader feels when reading the excerpt. The play had a spooky mood.
Purpose (n) - the reason the text exists. It is what the author or speaker hopes to accomplish by writing the text. He finally found his life purpose.
Perspective (n) - a way of thinking about and understanding something. The birds has a different perspective.
Audience (n) - those who actively engage with texts, interpret the texts according to their own knowledge and experiences, and use the texts to accomplish their own purposes. Most stories focus on a specific audience.
Expository techniques (n) - the elements an author uses that focus on central idea, provide evidence and examples, and present logical conclusions (ex.: facts, statistics, testimony, text, data, main ideas, etc.). The author doesn't use alot of Expositary techniques.
Stylistic (adj.) - of or concerning style (usually used when discussing elements in writing, similar to techniques). The author was very stylistic.
Closure (n) - a sense of resolution or conclusion. The story had a pretty bad closure.
Suspense (n) - a feeling of anxious curiosity, it often builds during the Rising Action of a story. There was a lot of suspense in the movie.
Adaptation (n) - a story or work that is based on an older story, they often include changes to the original story. They used a lot of adaptation to make the story interesting.
Parenthetical citations (n) - Citations are brief references within the text that provide readers with the source of the information. Parenthetical means the information is included in parenthesis ( ). Parenthetical citations are very important in writing.
Works Cited (n) - A Works Cited page is a list at the end of paper or text that shows all the sources that were used to find the information. It gives credit to the authors and helps readers know where the facts came from. The author made sure that the works cited.
Blight (n)-Something that spoils prevents growth, or destroys. Some mushrooms is a type of blight.
Maladies (n)-illnesses or diseases. He got a really bad maladies.
Puzzled (adj)-confused The bird was very puzzled.
Stricken (adj)-very badly affected. The bird was stricken by a shard of glass.
Stillness (n)-no noise or motion. The people seemed like they were struck with stillness.
Deserted (adj)-Empty. The desert is deserted.
Emissions (n) - the release, discharge, or sending out of something into the air or environment. The warehouse had bad emission of gas.
Emit (v) - to produce and discharge something. The greenhouse emits bad gases.
Activist (n) - a person who campaigns to bring about political or social change. There are many activists in the world.
Unicycle (n)-a cycle with a single wheel, typically used by acrobats. A clown uses a unicycle.
Manumittiere (v)-release from slavery; set free. All slaves in the world where manumittiered.
