| Explanation | A description of how something works or why something happens |
| Engineer | A person who uses science knowledge to design something in order to solve a problem |
| Resoure | A supply of something that is useful |
| Synthesis | To put together multiple pieces of information in order to understand something |
| Biosphere | All living things on earth |
| Hydrosphere | All liquid water and ice on earth |
| Atmosphere | The air that surrounds earth |
| Water vapor | Water in the form of invisible gas |
| Condensation | When gas turns into a liquid |
| Molecules | A group of atoms joined together in a particular way |
| System | A group of parts that work together |
| Evaporation | When a liquid turns into a gas |
| Design | To try to make something new that solves a problem |
| Criteria | Things that engineers think about and test in order to know how well something solves a problem |
| Iterate | To try something again using what you learned the last time you tired it |
| Wastewater | Water that has been used and now contains harmful substances |
| Three phases of water | Solid, liquid, and gas |
| Gas phase | Molecules are far apart and move quickly |
| Liquid phase | Molecules are close together, but are still able to move |
| Solid phase | Molecules are close together and cannot move |
