Individualized family service plans Addresses the needs of individual child who has disability, but also focuses on the child's family by specifying which services the family needs to enhance the child's development
Post traumatic stress disorder. PTSD Extremely stressful or terrifying event, either being a part of it or witnessing it
Stage theory approach Researchers have suggested that parents should go through a series of stages after learning that they have a child with a disability
Autism spectrum disorder. ASD Neurodevelopmental condition characterized by challenges with social communication, restricted interest, and repetitive behaviors
Family interaction This reflects family cohesion and adaptability, determinants of the "health" of a family
Work family conflict Refers to situations in which the demands of work interfere with the demands of the family or vice versa
Cohesion Cohesion refers to the degree to which an individual family member is free to act independently of other family members.
Adaptability Adaptability refers to the degree to which families are able to change their modes of interaction when they encounter unusual or stressful situations
Family functions These are numerous routines and families engaged to meet many diverse needs, economic, daily care, social, medical, and educational.
Guardianship One person has the authority, granted by the courts, to make decisions for another person.
Behavioral parent training Focuses on the child behavior as a way to relieve stressful relations in the family.
Mindfulness based positive behavior support Research as shown that this has had positive outcomes for mothers and their children with all autism spectrum disorders.
Home note programs Sometimes referred to as home contingency programs home programs are way of communicating with parents and having them reinforce behavior that occurs
Traveling notebooks These go back-and-forth between school and home, these are less former than home notes and particularly appropriate for students who see multiple professionals
