11.1 Water Resources

TermDefinition
Aquifer a body of rock or sediment that stores groundwater and allows for the flow of groundwater
Groundwater is the water that is beneath/under the Earth's surface
Permeability the ability of a rock or sediment to let fluids pass through its open spaces or pores
Porosity the percentage of the total volume of a rock or sediment that consists of open spaces
Recharge Zone an area in which water travels downward to become part of an aquifer
River System a flowing network of rivers and streams draining into a river basin
Surface Water all of the bodies of freshwater, saltwater, ice and snow that are found above ground
Watershed an area of land that is drained by a water system
