Where did they get the ideas from for the Constitutional Convention? English: life, liberty, property, French: separation of powers
Should slaves be counted as part of the population? North: says no because slaves would add to the population and give them more representation South: yes! because they wanted more representation

What is the New Jersey Plan? each state has equal representation, favors small states

What are the powers and responsibilities of the President? Commander in Chief: military decisions, Chief of State: deals with foreign countries, Chief Executive: appoints Supreme Court Justices, Chief Legislator: approves and vetoes laws, Chief of Party: head of political party

What happens on Election Day? Voters go to polls
What is the vote called when registered voters go to polls? A popular vote

How are the number of electoral votes determined for each state? Based on the state's population

What are the powers and responsibilities of the Senate? makes/passes laws, ratifies treaties, override president's veto with 2/3 of both houses, approves appointments of judges and cabinet members, impeachment trial - 2/3 of senate needed to convict
House of Representatives reps are based on population, 26 in NY, total: 435, building: Capitol, 2 year terms, unlimited, elected by voters, age: 25 citizen for 7 years, live in the state you represent
What are the powers and responsibilities of the House of Representatives? makes/passes laws, override a president's veto with 2/3 of both houses, votes to impeach president, power to vote if there's a tie or no majority
What is the Judicial Branch? Supreme Court, 9 justices, life terms, nominated by president, approved by senate, they interpret laws, decide if they follow the constitution (judicial review)
