Judiciary Act of 1789 established the federal court system, including the Supreme Court, and set up lower federal courts.
Cabinet a group of the president’s top advisors, usually the heads of executive departments, who help make decisions and run the government.
Alexander Hamilton a Founding Father, the first Secretary of the Treasury, and the creator of the U.S. financial system.
Bank of USA was a national bank proposed by Alexander Hamilton to help manage government funds, debts, and the nation’s economy.
Democratic-Republicans were a political party led by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison that favored strong state governments and a strict interpretation of the Constitution.
Two party system is a political system in which two major political parties dominate government and elections.
Excise Tariff is a tax on goods made, sold, or used within a country, often placed on specific products like alcohol or tobacco.
Edmond Genet French diplomat who tried to recruit Americans to fight for France during the French Revolution, causing controversy in the U.S.
Thomas Pinckney American diplomat and soldier who negotiated Pinckney’s Treaty with Spain, settling borders and navigation rights on the Mississippi River.
Little Turtle Native American leader of the Miami tribe who fought against the United States in the Northwest Indian War.
John Jay American statesman who served as the first Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and negotiated Jay’s Treaty with Britain.
Alien and Sedition Acts s passed in 1798 that made it harder for immigrants to become citizens and criminalized criticism of the government.
Nullification is the idea that a state can refuse to enforce a federal law it considers unconstitutional.
