Parents and Families

TermDefinition
Individualized Family Service Plans Focuses on individual child who has a disability and focuses on the child's family by specifying which services the family needs to enhance the child's development.
Family-centered model The family centered approach the families to make their own decisions with respect to services while mobilizing services.
Family Characteristics Information about the family such as type, family size, background, status, coping styles, and special conditions.
Family Systems Theory The individual behavior in context of family and understanding the family behavior in the context of other social systems is the basic principle.
Work-family conflict Demands of work interfere with the demands of the family or vise visa.
Family Interactions Family cohesion and adaptability, important determinants of the health of a family.
Cohesion Degree to which an individual family member is free to act independently of other family members
Adaptability Families are able to change their modes of interaction when they encounter unusual or stressful situations.
Family Functions Families engage to meet their many and diverse needs-economic, daily care, social, medical, and educational.
Behavioral Parent Training Focus on child behavior to relieve stress relations in the family
Family Activity Settings Routines families engage in.
Mindfulness Interventions Address both parents' problems in dealing with stress and strategies for them to use in managing their child's behavior
Mindfulness-Based Positive Behavior Support Strategies included in positive behavior supports.
Parent Teacher Conferences Teachers share information to the child's parent.
Traveling notebooks Goes back and forth between school and work. Teachers and other staff put messages in the notebook for parents to see.
Due Process Hearing A non-court proceeding Heald before an impartial hearing officer.
