| equinox | equinox: a day when the sun shines equally on the northern and southern halves of the Earth and day and night are about the same length |
| aphelion | the point in a planet’s path when it is farthest from the Sun |
| perihelion | the point in a planet’s path when it is closest to the Sun |
| geocentric | the old idea that everything in space moves around the Earth |
| revolution | the movement of a planet around its Sun or star one time |
| heliocentric | the idea that the Earth and other planets move around the sun |
| axial tilt | the slant of the Earth’s axis, or the way the Earth is at an angle |
| Kepler's Laws | the rules that explain how planets move around the Sun |
| seasons | the different times of the year (spring, summer, fall, and winter) that happen because the Earth’s tilt causes parts of the planet to get more or less sunlight |
| rotation | the spin of a planet around its axis one time |
| ellipse | a stretched-out circle or oval shape |
| solstice | solstice: the day when the sun is the farthest North or South in the sky and is the longest or shortest day of the year |
