| Astronomical Unit | a way to measure distance in space; equal to the distance from Earth to the Sun |
| Big Bang Theory | the idea that the Universe started from one tiny, hot point and has been expanding ever since |
| planet | a large, round object in space that orbits a star and has cleared its orbit of other objects |
| galaxy | a huge group of stars, gas, and dust held together by gravity |
| Solar System | the Sun and all the plants and objects that orbit around it |
| inner planet | one of the four planets closest to the sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars; characterized by small size and rocky surface |
| comet | a small, icy object that travels around the sun and can have a glowing tail |
| outer planet | one of the four planets farthest from the sun: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune; characterized by large size and gaseous composition |
| asteroid | a small, rocky object that travels around the sun |
| star | a giant ball of hot, glowing gas that gives off light and heat and is powered by nuclear fusion |
