Otoscope A tool used to look inside the ear.
Structures of the Ear Parts that help with hearing and balance.
Ear Canal Tube that carries sound to the eardrum.
Tympanic Membrane The eardrum; vibrates when sound hits it.
Ossicles Three tiny bones that move sound vibrations.
Eustachian Tube Tube that equalizes pressure in the ear.
Cochlea Snail-shaped part that helps you hear.
Semicircular Canals Help with balance.
Acute Otitis Media A middle ear infection.
Ophthalmoscope Tool used to look inside the eye.
Visual Acuity How sharp or clear your vision is.
Conjunctivitis Pink eye; inflammation of the eye lining.
Redness Increased blood flow.
Swelling Fluid buildup.
Heat Warmth in the area.
Pain Nerve response to injury.
Structures of the Oral Cavity Parts inside the mouth.
Tonsils Help fight infection.
Uvula Hanging tissue at back of throat.
Pharynx Throat; passage for air and food.
Tongue Helps with taste, speech, and swallowing.
Skin Cancer Screening (Mole Checks) Exam to find abnormal moles.
Asymmetry One half doesn’t match the other.
Border Edges are uneven or blurry.
Color Multiple or unusual colors.
Diameter Larger than a pencil eraser.
Evolving Mole changes over time.
Malignant Cancerous.
Melanoma Dangerous type of skin cancer.
Benign Not cancerous.
Auscultation Listening to body sounds with a stethoscope.
Intercostal Space Space between ribs.
Lub-Dub Normal heart sounds.
S1 & S2 Sounds Sounds of heart valves closing.
Murmur Abnormal heart sound.
Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC) Extra heartbeat
Structures of the Heart Parts that pump blood.
Aortic Valve Controls blood leaving the heart to the body.
Pulmonic Valve Controls blood going to lungs.
Tricuspid Valve Between right atrium and ventricle.
Mitral Valve Between left atrium and ventricle.
Aorta / Atria Main artery / upper chambers.
Ventricle(s) Lower chambers that pump blood.
Abnormal Lung Sounds Sounds that suggest breathing problems.
Wheezing High-pitched sound from narrow airways.
Crackles (Rales) Popping sounds from fluid in lungs.
Rhonchi Low-pitched, snoring-like sound.
Stridor Harsh sound from blocked airway.
Structures of the Respiratory System Parts used to breathe.
Trachea Windpipe.
Larynx Voice box.
Lungs Organs for breathing.
Bronchus / Bronch Large air passages.
Bronchioles Smaller airways.
Alveoli – Tiny air sacs where oxygen exchange happens.
Pleura Protective lining around lungs.
Diaphragm Muscle that helps you breathe.
