Know about the sinking of the Lusitania. A German submarine sinks the passenger liner Lusitania. The ship carries 1,198 people, 128 of them Americans. It sank in about 15 minutes, later found out that the ship carried War materials.
Know the Sussex pledge and the Sussex ship sinking. A German U-Boat torpedoed the French passenger ship, Germany offered to compensate Americans injured and to warn them before attacking. They were only willing to help because they were afraid America might enter World War One.
Know some of the new technology of WWI and how this tech impacted the war progression. Machine guns, tanks, poison gas. They were now capable of firing five hundred bullets per minute. Led to more destruction.
Explain the Zimmerman telegram. Germany sent telegram to Mexico wanting to team up, telegram was intercepted by British, US declared war on Germany
Explain the Schlieffen plan. Germany's plan to defeat France and then move East to attack Russia
What was the armistice? When did it occur? Armistice - agreement to stop fighting . Germany arranged an Armistice with the allies November 11th 1918. The 11th month 11th day at 11:00 a.m.
What are the terms of the Treaty of Versailles? -LofN was 1 of 14 points that were included in the Treaty of Versailles -Germany could not buy or build submarines, no Air Force -French border extended to the Rhine River -Germany pay $33 billion dollars - Allies over 30 years -Germany blamed
Who was not invited to the Paris Peace Conference? Germany + Russia
Why did Russia get out of WWI early? Their country was already dealing with the Civil War
What treaty did Russia sign to get out of the war? Treaty of Brest-Litovsk in 1918 with Central Powers
