She: How long have you been waiting here, and has anyone spoken to you yet? She asked how long I had been waiting there and whether anyone had spoken to me yet.
He: Finish what you’re doing now and come to my office immediately. He told me to finish what I was doing then and come to his office immediately.
She: Why didn’t you tell me earlier that you had already spoken to the manager? She asked why I hadn’t told her earlier that I had already spoken to the manager.
He: Can you stay today, or do you still have to leave early like you said last week? He asked if I could stay that day or if I still had to leave early as I had said the week before.
She: Please don’t say anything until we know exactly what has happened. She asked us not to say anything until they knew exactly what had happened.
He: What are you doing now, and have you finished everything you were supposed to do today? He asked what I was doing then and whether I had finished everything I was supposed to do that day.
She: Remind me to send the email if I haven’t done it by the end of the day. She asked me to remind her to send the email if she hadn’t done it by the end of the day.
He: Why do you keep saying you’re busy when you’ve already finished most of the work? He asked why I kept saying I was busy when I had already finished most of the work.
She: Don’t leave until you’ve spoken to everyone who needs to be informed. She told him not to leave until he had spoken to everyone who needed to be informed.
He: Have you ever had a situation like this before, or is this the first time? He asked if I had ever had a situation like that before or if that was the first time.
She: Tell me exactly what happened yesterday and why nobody contacted me. She told me to tell her exactly what had happened the day before and why nobody had contacted her.
He: Are you sure you locked the door when you left, or did you forget again? He asked if I was sure I had locked the door when I left or if I had forgotten again.
She: Please don’t make any decisions until we’ve discussed this together. She asked him not to make any decisions until they had discussed that together.
He: Why have you been working so late recently if you told me last month that you wanted more free time? He asked why I had been working so late recently if I had told him the month before that I wanted more free time.
She: Please don’t leave until you’ve finished everything we discussed this morning. She asked me not to leave until I had finished everything they had discussed that morning.

He: Did you really think this would work, or did you just hope for the best? He asked if I had really thought that would work or if I had just hoped for the best.
She: Don’t start anything new until you’ve finished what you’ve already begun. She told him not to start anything new until he had finished what he had already begun.
He: Why are you acting surprised now when you’ve known about this situation for weeks? He asked why I was acting surprised then when I had known about that situation for weeks.
She: Please explain what has changed since we last spoke and why you’ve changed your mind. She asked me to explain what had changed since they had last spoken and why I had changed my mind.
He: Have you checked everything carefully, or are you assuming it’s correct this time? He asked if I had checked everything carefully or if I was assuming it was correct that time.
She: Don’t forget to update me once you’ve heard back from them. She reminded me not to forget to update her once I had heard back from them.
He: Why didn’t you say anything when you realised there was a problem? He asked why I hadn’t said anything when I had realised there was a problem.
She: Tell me whether you’ve finished the task or if you still need more time. She told me to tell her whether I had finished the task or if I still needed more time.
He: Are you sure this is what you wanted, or have you started to doubt it now? He asked if I was sure that was what I had wanted or if I had started to doubt it then.
She: Please don’t interrupt me while I’m explaining what has happened so far. She asked him not to interrupt her while she was explaining what had happened so far.
He: Why do you keep saying you’ll do it later when you’ve already missed the deadline once? He asked why I kept saying I would do it later when I had already missed the deadline once.
She: Don’t leave the office until you’ve spoken to everyone who’s involved in this. She told him not to leave the office until he had spoken to everyone who was involved in that.
