What are the seven principles of government? Federalism, individual rights, checks and balances, limited government, popular sovereignty, republicanism, and separation of powers.
What is federalism? Principle of the U.S constitution that establishes the power between the federal government and the states.
What are individual rights? The constitution protects individual rights, such as freedom or speech, freedom of religion, and the right to trial by jury.
What are checks and balances? A principle of the U.S constitution that gives each branch of government the power to check, or limit, the actions of other branches.
What is the limited governemnt? The principle that the government ad only the powers that the constitution gives it.
What is popular sovereignty? The idea that the people are the key source of a government's authority: right of people in a say or territory to vote or directly on issues rather than have their elected representatives deicde.
What is republicanism? The constitution provides for a republican form of government. Instead of direct participation in government, citizens elect representatives to carry out their will.
What is separation of powers? Principle by which the powers of government are divided among separate branches.
What are the goals of preamble? Form a more perfect union, establish justice, provide for common defense, promote general welfare, secure blessings of liberty, and domestic tranquility.
What does form a more perfect union mean? To bring the country together as one and to make it better than before.
What does establish justice mean? To create a few legal system meaning that all laws should be applied equally and fairly.
What does pride for common defense mean? To protect the nation from enemies and a shared responsibility of defense.
What does promote general welfare mean? To help better the well- being of the whole country and that the government should act for the good of all people.
What does secure blessings of liberty mean? To protect the freedoms of the people and prevent the government from taking that away.
What does domestic tranquility mean? To keep the country under control and everything stays at peace.
What are the seven articles? Legislative branch, executive branch, judicial branch, relationship between states, amendment process, supremacy clause, and ratification.
What is the first article? The legislative branch; it describes its powers.
What is the second article? The executive branch; focuses how its led by the president and how it enforces the laws.
What is the third article? The judicial branch; it establishes how It interprets the laws and is made up by the courts.
What is the fourth article? It deals with the relationships between states and the national government and how they would allow new states.
What is the fifth article? Outlines how the constitution can be changed, but provides a process for those changes.
What is the sixth article? The constitution is the highest authority nicknamed the "supreme law of land"; meaning now state law can go against it.
What is the seventh article? It goes into detail about how laws can be ratified. It also lists the states that approved the constitution.
What does the legislative branch so? It makes the laws.
How many senators does each state have? Each state has 2 senators; it is based on equality.
How many House of Representatives odes each state have? Each state has no set number; it is based on populartiy.
What is the power of congress made up of? The power of congress is the legislative branch; made up of the senate and house of representatievs.
How old must you be to qualify to be a senator? You must be 30 years old to qualify to be a senator.
How many years must you be a U.S citizen to be a senator? You must be a U.S citizen for at least 9 years.
How long is each term for a senator? Each senator term is 6 years.
How many times can a senator be re- elected? A senator has no limit to how many times they can be re- elected.
How old must you be to qualify to be in the House of Representatives? You must be 25 years old to qualify to be in the house of representatives.
How many years must you be a U.S citizen to be in the House of Representatives You must be a U.S citizen for at least 7 years.
How long is each term for a House of Representatives member? Each House of Representatives term is 6 years.
How many times can a House of Representatives member be re- elected? A House of Representatives member has no limit to how many times they can be re- elected.
What does the executive branch do? The executive branch carries out and enforces the laws.
Who is the executive branch made up of? The executive branch is made up of the president and his cabinets.
What does the cabinet do? The cabinet helps the president make important decisions.
When does the presidential voting take place? The presidential voting takes place every four years on the second Tuesday of November.
How long is each presidential term? Each term is four years
How many times can a president be re- elected? A president can be re- elected twice meaning that they can have a maximum of 8 years in office.
Why is there a limit on how many terms a president can serve. There is a limit because even if they are the best president ever they need to switch it up to get new ideas in the office.
How old must you be to become president? You must be at least 35 years old.
What are the requirements of becoming president following along being a U.S citizen? You must be a natural born U.S citizen and lived in the U.S for 14 years.
How does the election process work? Each state will do their voting and who ever gets the majority of votes in that state has those votes count towards the amount they need. Whoever looses in that state will not get those votes.
How many main government cabinets are there? There are 15 main cabinets.
What does the judicial branch do? The judicial branch interprets the laws.
What is the judicial court made up of? It is made up of the Supreme Court; the nine justices (judges).
Who picks the judges for the Supreme Court? The president chooses who is going to be a judge in the Supreme Court.
Why are there nine judges? There are nine judges so there is an odd number; meaning there will not be a tie. It is also a high enough number that it something happens to a few of the judges there is still a good number left.
What is the Supreme Court? The highest court in the U.S that ensures the law is applied equally and fairly.
What does the Supreme Court do? The Supreme Court has the final say on cases involving the constitution, laws passed on congress and disputes between states.
What is the judicial review? This gives this court the power to review laws or actions by the government to ensure that no branch is being too powerful or violating the rights of citizens.
