Mitosis

QuestionAnswer
Prophase The 1st stage of mitosis
Prophase The chromosomes double and pair up. The wall around the nucleus goes away. The chromones pairs get ready to move.
Chromosomes Genetic material located inside the nucleus; give directions to the cell
Mitosis When one cell divides to make 2 new cells (also known as cell division)
Metaphase Is the 2nd stage of mitosis
Metaphase All the chromosomes move to the middle of the cell.
Anaphase The 3rd stage of mitosis
Anaphase The chromosome pairs pull apart. They move away from each other.
Telophase The 4th (last) stage of mitosis
Telophase The chromosomes are at opposite ends of the dividing cell. The wall of the nucleus forms around each set of chromosomes.
Why is mitosis needed? 1. to help animals grow 2. to replace dead cells 3. to heal cuts or injuries
