| Term | Definition |

| Sedimentary rock | Rocks form from sediments being in compacted together and cemented over a long period of time |
| Metamorphic rock | Rocks for deep underground from existing rocks. Existing rocks are changed over a long period of time due to heat from magma and the pressure of the layers above. |
| Igneous rock | Rocks formed when molten rock from beneath earths surface, cools and hardens |
| Crust | The outer most layer of the Earth that is made of minerals. That tectonic plates are a part of this layer. |
| Mantle | Layer located below the crest that is made of partially molten rock. Magma that erupts from volcanoes is a part of this layer. |
| Outer core | Located below the mantle and is made of liquid iron and nickel. The flowing movement of these metals causes earths magnetic field. |
| Inner core | The center of the planet, made a solid iron and nickel that is under intense pressure |
| Geosphere | Composed of the rocks and minerals and make up earth |
| Biosphere | Composed of all living things on earth and their ecosystems |
| Hydrosphere | Composed of all water on earth (solid, liquid, and gaseous states) |
