TermDefinition
Sedimentary rock Rocks form from sediments being in compacted together and cemented over a long period of time
Metamorphic rock Rocks for deep underground from existing rocks. Existing rocks are changed over a long period of time due to heat from magma and the pressure of the layers above.
Igneous rock Rocks formed when molten rock from beneath earths surface, cools and hardens
Crust The outer most layer of the Earth that is made of minerals. That tectonic plates are a part of this layer.
Mantle Layer located below the crest that is made of partially molten rock. Magma that erupts from volcanoes is a part of this layer.
Outer core Located below the mantle and is made of liquid iron and nickel. The flowing movement of these metals causes earths magnetic field.
Inner core The center of the planet, made a solid iron and nickel that is under intense pressure
Geosphere Composed of the rocks and minerals and make up earth
Biosphere Composed of all living things on earth and their ecosystems
Hydrosphere Composed of all water on earth (solid, liquid, and gaseous states)
