Connective tissues -Most abundent and widely distributed -found in all parts of the body -Forms a framework where epithelial tissues rest -is within the nervous and muscle tissues are embedded
Functions of CT Protect support binding energy storage
Charactertistics -Have a rich blood supply (except for bone and cartilage -Varies cell type -varies in fiber type -cells and fibers are scattered within ground substance
CT is classified into 1.) Cell population- fibroblasts, adipocytes exc. 2.)Fiber type-Collagen, reticular, elastic 3.)Ground substance AKA extracellur matrix
Connective tissue proper means Blood--> therefore highly vascularized
Supportive connective tissue not as vascularized so ground substance is fairly solid
Fluid Connective tissue Ground substance is liquid
Areolar CT F- Protects tissues and organs L-Surrounds organs
Adipose CT F- stores energy L- Surrounds and covers some organs
Reticular CT F-provides stoma L-Spleen
Dense regular CT F-Connects bone to bone L-Tendons
Dense irregular CT F- Durable L-Dermis of the Skin
Elastic CT F-Allows stretching and recoil L- Vocal cords
Hyaline cartilage F- Provides support L-tip of the nose
Elastic Cartilage F- permits extensive flexibility L- External ear
Fibrocartilage F- Shock absorber L-Meniscus of the Knee joint
Bone F- Protects organs L- Bones of the body
Blood F-Move nutrients, waste, hormones through body L-Blood vessels/ heart
