TermDefinition
stimulus a change in the environment; It can be something the body notices from the outside or inside.
sensory receptor a part of the body that notices a stimulus;It helps the body understand what is happening.
transmitted sent from one place to another
What happens after a sensory receptor notices a stimulus? information is transmitted to the brain
After the brain understands the information, instructions are... transmitted from the brain telling the body what to do next
behavior response what the body does; It can happen right away.
What are examples of sensory receptors? your eyes help you see; your skin help you feel touch; help with balance and movement
What are the 3 parts of the nervous system? The brain, The spinal cord, The nerves
reflex automatic (automatically) and happen quickly to protect the body. They do not require conscious thought at the moment they occur
voluntary responses brain making a conscious decision before acting. These responses take more time
Brain 1 organ located in the skull made of billions of neurons that functions as the center of the nervous system
Brain 2 responsible for processes such as perception, cognition, motor control, and behavior
Memory ability to store, remember, and retrieve information or data
Behavior observable action that is exhibited by an individual or a group of individuals, such as a living organism or an artificial intelligence system
Concussion An injury to the brain caused by a blow, sudden movement, or violent shaking
Neuron (nerve cell) specialized cell that transmits nerve impulses and is the basic unit of the nervous system
Nervous system 1 made of a complex network of nerves and cells that carries messages back and forth between the brain and different parts of the body.
Nervous System 2 It is responsible for coordinating and regulating all functions of the body, including movement, thinking, and responding to the environment
Symptom Observable changes in a person’s condition (like dizziness, ringing in ears) that could indicate a disorder or medical problem
