TermDefinition
Displacement Is the difference between the initial or starting positions and final position
Speed Is a measure of the distance an object travels
Velocity The speed and direction of a moving object
Vector Is a quantity that has both magnitude and direction
Reference point The starting point you choose to describe the location or position of a object
Position An objects distance and direction from a reference point
Motion The Process of changing position
Acceleration Is a measure of the change in velocity during a period of time
Force Is a push or pull on an object
Contact Force Is a push or a pull on a object by another object that is touching it
Newton's 2nd Law States that the acceleration of an object equals the net force
Friction Is a force that resists the sliding motion of two surfaces that are touching
Free-Body Diagram Is a simple model to understand systems of objects with any amount of applied forces
Net Forces Is the sum of all the forces acting on a object
Newton's First law An object at rest will stay at rest, and in object in motion will stay in motion
