Sociology

What is Sociology? Sociology is the study of human social relationships and institutions.
What are you studying in Sociology? societies such as institutions, communities, populations, and groups based on gender, race, or age, studies social status, social movements, social change, and societal disorder, such as crime, deviance, and revolution.
What do Sociologists do? They study human society, social behavior, and the structures that shape interactions within communities, using various research methods to analyze social issues and contribute to policy decisions.
How is Sociology different from Psychology? Sociology focuses on societal structures and group behavior, while psychology concentrates on an individual mental processes and behavior.
What is Sociological imagination? the ability to see connections between individuals' experiences and larger social forces.
What are the major components for History, biography, and social structure
What was C. Wright Mills' intention with the concept? For people to be able to grasp the relation between history and biography within society.

What is Praxis? A technical term that refers to a fusion of theory and practice. It is based on the idea that sociologists should not see theory and practice as two distinct entities.
What is Theory? An explanation as to how or why something happens. Made with evidence, observation, and logical reasoning.
What is Sociological theory? An explanation that helps us understand how society works and why people behave the way they do. Made with evidence, observation, and logical reasoning
What is Functionalism? Theory that society is a system made up of parts that work together to keep it stable and functioning.
Who's the founder of Functionalism? Emile Durkheim
Who's the father of Sociology? Auguste comte (He coined the term)
Who are the foundational figures of Conflict theory? Karl marx and Max Weber
What is conflict theory? Theory that society is a system made up of groups competing for power, resources, and opportunities
What is Symbolic interactionism? Theory that focuses on everyday interactions and how people create meaning through symbols.
