Sun star that supplies Earth’s light and heat
Earth Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbor life. Formed approximately 4.5 billion years ago, it is a terrestrial, rocky planet, featuring a surface covered by 70% liquid water.
Reflects Reflects means to bounce light, heat, or sound off a surface.
Absorbs Absorbs means to take in or soak up energy, light, or a substance.
Circulation Circulation is the movement of air, water, or another substance in a continuous pattern.
Ice core An ice core is a long cylinder of ice drilled from glaciers or ice sheets to study past climates.
Geologic sample A geologic sample is a piece of rock, soil, or sediment collected to study Earth’s history and structure.
Water vapor Water vapor is the invisible gas form of water found in the air.
Carbon dioxide Carbon dioxide is a colorless gas released by breathing and burning fuels that traps heat in the atmosphere.
Methane Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas produced by animals, decay, and fossil fuels.
Nitrous oxide Nitrous oxide is a greenhouse gas released from fertilizers and burning fuels that traps heat in the atmosphere.
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons HCFCs are human-made gases once used in refrigeration that can damage the ozone layer and trap heat.
Hydrofluorocarbons HFCs are human-made gases used in cooling systems that trap heat but do not harm the ozone layer.
Ozone Ozone is a gas made of three oxygen atoms that protects Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation in the upper atmosphere.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
