TermDefinition
Element A part or aspect of something abstract especially one that is essential or characteristic
Compound a thing that as composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture.
Atomic The total mass of an atom, primarily determined by the sum of protons and neutrons in its nuclear.
Electrons A stable subatomic particle with a charge of negative electricity, found in all atoms and acting as the primary carrier of electricity in solids.
Neutrons A subatomic particle of about the same mass as a proton but without an electric charge, presents in all atomic nuclei except those of ordinary hydrogen.
Protons A stable subatomic particle occurring in all atomic nuclei, with a positive electric charge equal in magnitude to that of an electron, but of opposite sign.
Electron cloud The visual representation of the probable locations of electrons surrounding an atoms nucleus, representing the region of negative charge.
Valence electron The negatively charged subatomic particles located in the outermost electron shell (valence shell) of an atom.
Electron Dot A visual representation of an atom's valence electrons outermost electrons as dots placed around its chemical symbol, showing how these electrons are arranged and used in chemical bonding, often aiming for a stable octet (eight electrons).
Bohr Model A model of the atom that depicts electrons orbiting a small, positively charged nucleus in specific, fixed circular parts called orbits or shells each with a quantized energy level.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
