landlord a person who owns land, usually referencing one who rents the land rather than uses it themselves.
loan money temporarily given that needs to be paid back with additional costs over time.
malnutrition inadequate or unbalanced food causing health issues.
Penal Laws laws passed against Catholics in Britain and Ireland after the Reformation that penalized the practice of the Catholic religion and imposed civil disabilities on Catholics.
starve to die or suffer from not eating.
tenant a person who rents rather than owns the land/building they live/work on.
typhus a serious infectious disease that is transmitted by fleas, mites, and lice and is marked by high fever, headache, delirium, and a red rash.
workhouses a place where people are sent and forced to work for their housing and food, usually as a punishment for unpaid debts.
