QuestionAnswer
Atlas Supports the skull First cervical vertebra
Axis What the skull rotates on Second cervical vertebra
Cervical vertebrae In the neck - first 7 vertebrae
Thoracic vertebrae 12 of them (8-19) Connect the ribs
Lumbar vertebrae 5 of them (20-24) Lower back - have a bigger corpus compared to others
Sacrum 5 fused vertebrae (25-29)
Coccyx 3-4 tiny fused vertebrae (30-33/34)
Spinous process Back part of the vertebrae - stick out parts
Vertebral foramen Large hole that goes through each vertebra
Transverse forament The little holes only in the cervical vertebrae where the vertebral arteries go through
Transverse process Piece that juts out to the sides
Dens/Odontoid process Only on the axis, piece that stick up to connect to the atlas
Facet for occiput Big flat parts of axis that hold up the skull
Corups Thick part (body of the vertebrae
Pedicle Bend just before the jut-out part (transverse process) In between the superior and inferior costal facets (on the corpus)
Superior and inferior costal facet Part that the ribs attach to - Little divot on corpus above and below pedicle
Superior articular facet/process Process sits on top of facet Connect vertebrae to each other (holds the vertebra on top of it)
Inferior articular facet/process Connect vertebrae to each other (on the bottom so sits on the vertebra below it
Intervertebral disc Located in between the vertebrae in the spaces
Scapula Shoulder blade
Clavicle Collar bone
Sternum middle of chest
Ilium Flat part of hip bone
Pubis Flat part of sideways B
Ischium Curves of sideways B
Crest of ilium Top of ilium (hip bone)
Sacroiliac joint Where sacrum and ilium meet
Pubic symphysis Where the where the two Ischium meet
Rib You know that one
Rib head Top of rib
Rib neck Right below rib head
Tubercle of rib Process under rib neck (jut)
Angle of rib First part of the curve of rib
Shaft of rib Middle of the "U" of rib
True rib The part of the rib that is bone
False rib Ribs 8-10 (11-12?) That don't connect directly to the sternum
floating rib Two last ribs (11-12) that don't attach to the Sternum
Chondral portion of rib Part of rib that is cartilage (connects ribs to the Sternum)
Manubrium Top part of the Sternum
Corpus (body) of sternum Main, middle part of the Sternum
Xiphoid process Tip of the sternum
Manubriosternal angle Ridge where the body of the sternum and manubrium join
Suprasternal notch Dip in the very top of the sternum
nasal cavity Cavity in the nose
Oral cavity Mouth
Pharynx Above the larynx and behind it (connects nasal and oral cavities and goes below them as well
Larynx Adam's apple/voicebox
Hyoid bone Moveable bone - moves larynx
Esophagus Food passageway - further back than trachea
Trachea Air passageway - in front of trachea
Carina Where trachea splits to lungs
mainstem bronchi Part of bronchi closest to the Carina
secondary bronchi Near the middle of the lungs - where it splits off from mainstem bronchi
tertiary bronchi Where they split off from the secondary bronchi
Right and left lungs The lungs on each side - left lung doesn't have a middle lobe
2 superior lobes, middle lobe, 2 inferior lobes (on lung) - lobes on top of both lungs - only on the right lung - lobes on bottom of both lungs
Base and apex of lungs very bottom of lungs and very top of lungs
