scientific investigation a systematic, evidence-based approach to answering questions about the natural world using the scientific method.
research the systematic investigation of nature to discover new knowledge.
observation the use of senses or tools to gather, record, and measure information about the natural world.
inference a logical conclusion or explanation based on evidence, observations, and prior knowledge.
hypothesis a testable, educated guess or proposed explanation for a scientific observation
experiment a controlled test to discover, prove, or check a scientific idea
independent variable the factor purposely changed or manipulated by the scientist to test its effects.
dependent variable the factor being measured in an experiment that changes in response to the independent variable.
controlled variable a factor kept constant to ensure a fair, accurate test.
control A control in science is a standard, unchanging benchmark used for comparison to verify experimental results.
data Data in science refers to raw, objective facts and observations collected to provide evidence for analysis.
conclusion a summary of experimental results that explains whether the data supports or refutes the original hypothesis.
analyze to carefully break down and examine data or samples to understand their patterns, components, and meaning.
scientific bias a systematic error in research methods, data collection, or analysis that deviates from the truth, causing distorted results.
data trends Data trends in science refer to the general, long-term direction of change—upward, downward, or flat—observed in research data over time.
