| Research | Research is a systematic, evidence-based inquiry designed to discover, interpret, or revise knowledge |
| Observation | Observation is the active process of gathering information by using senses or scientific tools to notice and record data, behaviors, or events in natural or controlled settings |
| inference | a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. |
| hypothesis | a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation. |
| experiment | An experiment is a scientific test or procedure performed to discover, demonstrate, or test a hypothesis by manipulating variables under controlled conditions to observe cause-and-effect relationships, gathering data to support or refute a theory. |
| independent variable | a variable (often denoted by x ) whose variation does not depend on that of another. |
| dependent variable | a variable (often denoted by y ) whose value depends on that of another. |
| controlled variable | factors kept intentionally unchanged throughout an experiment to ensure a fair test. |

| data | facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis |
| conclusion | the end or finish of an event or process. |
| analyze | examine methodically and in detail the constitution or structure of (something, especially information), typically for purposes of explanation and interpretation. |
| scientific bias | Scientific bias refers to systematic, often unintentional, errors in the design, data collection, analysis, or interpretation phases of research that lead to inaccurate, skewed, or non-objective results |
| data trends | Data trends are the general, long-term direction in which a dataset moves—upward, downward, or sideways—over a specific period |
