Sci. Investigation

TermDefinition
Scientific Investigation a quest to find the answer to a question using the scientific method
Research the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies and understandings
Observation The action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information.
Inference A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning.
Hypothesis A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Experiment A supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Independent Variable a variable that stands alone and isn't changed by the other variables you are trying to measure
Dependent Variable what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experimen
Controlled Variable an element that is not changed throughout an experiment
Control The power to influence or direct people's behavior or the course of events.
Data A piece of information.
