How does food help living organisms? provides organisms with energy for life functions
How does water help living organisms? helps organisms break down food, grow, move substances within their bodies
How does a living space help living organisms? provides organisms with a place where they can get food and water find shelter from weather, and maintain homeostasis
How does homeostasis help living organisms? it allows organisms to maintain stable conditions inside body ( temp and water amounts) and helps with cell function
How many terrestrial biomes did we discuss? 7
How would you describe the RAINFOREST biome? Hot, moist all year round, there are 2 types: tropical (closer to the equator and temperate (farther from the equator)
Where can you find RAINFORESTS? Between the tropic of cancer and the tropic of capricorn
How would you describe the GRASSLANDS biome? Open, continuous. The grass height depends in the rain and there are not many trees
How would you describe the CONIFEROUS FOREST biome? Mostly conifers and there are needles on the trees all year long
How would you describe the TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FOREST biome? There are cold winters and hot summers and the trees change in the fall
How would you describe the DESERT biome? Driest of all biomes, little rain, shrt plant life cycle
Where can you find most DESERTS? All continents but Antarctica
How would you describe the SHRUBLANDS biome? includes chaparral, woodland, and savannah
How would you describe the TUNDRA biome? Coldest biome, little rain, wither is 10 months and there are little to no plants
How are AQUATIC biomes classified? Based on their salinity levels
What is SALINITY? Amount of salt in the water
What are the two names of aquatic biomes? Freshwater and marine
Freshwater biomes are divided by ____________. Their movements
Where is life found in freshwater biomes? Shallow sunny parts
Where can decomposers be found in freshwater? deep and dark waters
Where is freshwater the cleanest? near the top of a mountain
How does life in the deep dark ocean get energy? using chemical reactions, called chemosynthesis
Where is life found in the ocean? most life is in shallow waters but life is also found in the deep dark parts
What two factors are kills coral reefs? higher temps and more acidic
What’s special about estuaries? freshwater and ocean water mix
