| Scientific Investigation | a systematic, objective, and evidence-based process used to answer questions about the natural world, typically following the scientific method |
| Research | the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. |
| Observation | the action or process of observing something or someone carefully or in order to gain information. |
| Inference | a conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning. |
| Hypothesis | a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation. |
| Experiment | a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact. |
| Independent Variable | a variable (often denoted by x ) whose variation does not depend on that of another |
| Dependent Variable | A dependent variable is the measurable outcome, effect, or response in an experiment or study that changes based on the manipulation of the independent variable |
| Controlled Variable | a factor in a scientific experiment that is intentionally kept unchanged, or held constant, to prevent it from influencing the results |
| Control | the power to influence or direct people's behavior or the course of events. |
| Data | facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis |
| Conclusion | the end or finish of an event or process. |
| Analyze | examine methodically and in detail the constitution or structure of (something, especially information), typically for purposes of explanation and interpretation. |
| Scientific Bias | a systematic, non-random deviation from the truth in research, resulting from flaws in study design, data collection, analysis, or interpretation |
| Data trends | the general, long-term direction or pattern of change in a dataset over a specific period, often visualized in time-series graphs |
