Bevel Tip of a needle angled to form a sharp point
Hematoma Bruise, clot at site of injury
Palpate To examine by touch
Syncope Fainting
Erythrocytes Red blood cells- make up 44% of whole blood
Hematocrit A blood test that measures how much of a persons blood is made up of RBCs
Hemoglobin Iron-containing protein that transports oxygen to the tissues
Leukocytes WBCs that fight infection
Thrombocytes Platelets- help form blood clots to slow or stop bleeding
Requisition Lab request form
Phlebotomy Surgical opening of a vein to withdraw blood
Antecubital Fossa Pit of the elbow
Lancet Sharp tool used in capillary puncture
Tourniquet A flat band used in venipuncture to make veins easier to identify and enter
